Ruyao is one of the five most important and famous kilns of Song Dynasty, and it is the one on top of the list. Sky blue after the rain is the color Song Hui Zong - last emperor of Northern Song loved the most, and the most difficult to achieve. It was an lost art until Qing dynasty, Yong Zheng commissioned to remake Ruyao China wares at the royal kiln in Beijing, not in Henan where the original Song kiln was located.
Song Hui Zong was the one of the best artist in Chinese history, but not the best politician. He was a great painter, calligrapher, poet, tea connoisseur, book writer, and China ware designer. He was well versed in every art related subject matter, hence Song dynasty was the plateau of Chinese art history, not any time in space can out do Song dynasty, not before, not after either. We can only get a glimpse of its elegance and refinement today, try to replicate a small portion of its best achievements.
