These agarwood incense nuggets come from Hai Nan, China — widely regarded as one of the finest agarwood-producing regions in the world. This is Qinan grade (also spelled kynam or kyara in other traditions), the rarest and most sought-after classification of agarwood, distinguished by a soft, pliable texture and a deep, honey-like fragrance that sets it apart from standard agarwood grades.

With roughly 90% natural resin content (sinking grade), these nuggets are intended for burning or gentle heating as incense, or for use in an incense sachet — each method bringing out slightly different notes of the fragrance. For incense and aromatic use only; not intended for ingestion or internal use.

What Makes Qinan Agarwood Different

Agarwood forms inside Aquilaria trees as a natural defense response to fungal infection, slowly transforming the heartwood into a dense, resin-rich material over many years. Qinan represents the highest tier of this process — resin content and aromatic complexity far beyond ordinary agarwood, which is why it commands significantly higher prices and is treasured among serious incense collectors and practitioners throughout East and Southeast Asia.

In Chinese and broader Asian incense culture, agarwood has been valued for centuries as a fragrance material burned to create a calming, focused atmosphere — a tradition that continues today among those who appreciate slow, deliberate incense practice.

How to Burn Qinan Agarwood Nuggets

For the most refined aroma, gently heat the nuggets over low, indirect heat (such as an incense heater or charcoal with an ash barrier) rather than burning them with direct flame, which allows the subtle honey and resin notes to fully develop. Alternatively, nuggets can be placed in a small sachet or pouch to slowly scent a room or drawer over time without burning.
